Our covenant with God is not fragile or uncertain. It is not dependent on our performance. Covenant is woven throughout Scripture and that God’s promises stand unshaken. From Galatians 3, we are reminded that Christ redeemed us from the curse so the blessing of Abraham could come on us through Jesus. If we belong to Christ, then we are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
One of the most freeing truths shared is this:
You cannot break God’s covenant! The covenant was made between God the Father and God the Son, which means it is unbreakable by nature. A person may drift out of fellowship, but restoration is not complicated or filled with shame. It is as simple as returning to Jesus with a sincere heart. Since the covenant is rooted in God’s love, forgiveness is not reluctant. Instead, it flows from who He is.
Our covenant is sealed by something far greater than animal blood or even human blood. It is sealed in the blood of Jesus, the holy and untainted sacrifice of God Himself. That is why Scripture tells us that if God did not spare His own Son, He will also freely give us all things. Everything we could ever need is of far lesser value than the blood that purchased us. This truth becomes an anchor for the soul when circumstances or accusations try to tell us we have nothing to stand on.
Finally, it is time to live by three eternal realities of covenant life.
First, covenant is a covenant of love. It is a promise to care for, protect, and prosper us, not based on performance but on God’s faithfulness across generations.
Second, covenant is a covenant of peace. Shalom includes wholeness, health, prosperity, contentment, and friendship with God.
Third is Hesed, the steadfast covenant love of God. It cannot be fully captured in English, but it includes both grace and mercy. God did not obligate Himself unwillingly. He chose to obligate Himself because of His deep and fervent love for you.
