Getting Rid of Fear

Faith was never meant to be a checklist or something reserved for church services. This week on Covenant Living, we’re reminded that faith is a daily lifestyle, meant to be practiced in real moments and ordinary routines. Living by faith means being intentional in everyday life, not just during formal spiritual activities. When faith becomes part of how we live, it begins to push fear out naturally.

That intentionality shows up in simple but meaningful ways. Something as practical as praying over groceries while putting them away becomes an act of faith, not tradition. Faith is personal, purposeful, and meant to benefit your life right where you are. These everyday practices help keep faith active and fear from gaining ground.

Scripture gives us clear instruction on how to deal with fear when it tries to appear. In Mark 5, Jesus tells Jairus to make a decision immediately: do not fear, only believe. Fear must be addressed the moment it shows up. The steps are simple but powerful—choose faith, resist fear, and continue developing in the love of God. Fear loses its hold when it is confronted early and replaced with confidence in God’s promises.

God has already given believers everything needed to live free from fear. Isaiah reminds us that we are God’s own, strengthened, helped, and upheld by His hand. The promises given to Abraham apply to us as well, because we belong to Christ. Scripture also makes it clear that fear does not come from God. He has given us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Fear is something to resist, not accept, and resisting it steadfastly keeps faith strong.

This principle applies directly to our closest relationships, including marriage. Fear, when allowed in, can quietly undermine trust and unity. Faith and love work together to keep fear from taking root. When love is active and faith is practiced daily, fear has no place to remain.

The takeaway is clear: fear must be removed on purpose. When we live by faith, stay rooted in God’s love, and resist fear immediately, we walk in the confidence and peace God intended for covenant living. God is for you, He has redeemed you, and His love empowers you to live free from fear every day.
