This week we began teaching on a gift the Lord has already given. Ephesians 2 tells us that by grace we are saved through faith, and that salvation is the gift of God. That word “saved” is the word sozo, and it includes healing. So for the next couple of weeks, we are going to talk about the gift of healing and how to stand for it in faith. We are not trying to talk God into doing something. We are learning how to receive what He has already provided.

We also started by reminding you of something we have seen over and over again. The Lord confirms His Word with signs following. Mark 16 tells us that as the Word is preached, the Lord works with it and confirms it with miracles. We have already seen His power moving this week, and we have set this time aside specifically for the healing power of Almighty God. The more we grow in faith, the more confidently we can receive and walk in what belongs to us.

As we looked through the Gospels, we saw what Jesus called “great faith.” In Matthew 8, the centurion said, “Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” In Matthew 15, the woman understood something powerful when Jesus called healing the children’s bread. She refused to be offended, and she would not let go. She believed even the crumbs were enough. In Mark 5, the woman with the issue of blood showed us how faith makes a demand on the power of God. She heard about Jesus, faith came, and then she spoke. She said, “If I touch His clothes, I shall be whole.” Jesus told her, “Your faith has made you whole.” That power belongs to God, but faith is what reaches out and receives it.

Then we laid out the healing timeline clearly. Isaiah prophesied it when he wrote that the Messiah would bear our sicknesses and that by His stripes we would be healed. Matthew looked at Jesus on the earth and said Isaiah’s words were fulfilled. Peter looked back at the cross and said, “By whose stripes you were healed.” That is past tense. Healing is not something we are trying to get one day. It is something Jesus already bought and paid for, and He has given it to His children. Healing is yours now.

We also reminded you that healing is part of God’s covenant name. In Exodus 15, God revealed Himself as Jehovah Rafa, the Lord who heals. God would have to change His name for healing to pass away, and He never changes. Then Ephesians 3 tells us the whole family in heaven and earth is named after Him. That means His covenant nature is part of our identity. You do not only believe in healing. You carry the name. You belong to the family. Healing is part of what Jesus purchased for you, and it is part of who you are in Him.
