Everything about the Christian life is covenant—because this Bible is covenant. It is a record of the first covenant and the better covenant, and you have to know what’s in it to walk in the benefits of it. That’s why, this week, we’re building confidence in two things: the written Word you can see on the page, and the spoken Word the Lord speaks in your spirit.

Paul said it like this: salvation is a gift—by grace—received through faith (Ephesians 2:8). Grace gives you what you did not earn. Faith is how that gift becomes real in your everyday life. And when faith grows, you start living what Ephesians 2:10 calls “the good life” God already planned for you. That is the point of next level faith.

Now, one of the main ways God leads His people is by His voice—often as that inward witness. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s strong enough that you and your spouse both stop and look at each other like, “Did you just hear that?” We’ve had moments like that—where the Lord spoke a clear line that became a turning point, and we made a U-turn in life.

But here’s what we want you to understand: the issue usually isn’t that God won’t speak. The issue is whether we will listen and obey. Jeremiah 7 shows people who did not “bend their ear” or pay attention—even though God kept reaching for them. God will meet you where you are, but He will not force you. Ignoring the inner witness hardens the heart, and that’s the only way His voice gets “blocked”—by our choice.

And for everyone who’s nervous about missing it, hear this: the biggest mistake is not stepping out at all. If you step out in faith to obey what the Lord is telling you, He can correct you. He can fix the miss. But you can’t grow in hearing if you refuse to practice.

So here’s your safety net while you’re learning: the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, and He will never contradict the written Word (John 16:13). The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost agree (1 John 5:7). If what you’re hearing goes crosswise with Scripture, it’s not Him. But if it agrees with the Word—even if it’s instruction about how to apply a verse—then you can move forward with confidence.

That’s the inner witness: the Lord leading you from the inside, in agreement with the covenant, guiding you into the good life He already prepared.
